3X Lightning Sprint Ready To Go... Fast

Winnipeg's Bob Charney has his #3X Lightning Sprint Car ready for action.

Monster Jam Crowd Response Confirms NLSA Has Bright Future

The Northern Lightning Sprint Association made motorsports history this weekend at the MTS Centre as they became the first Sprint Car organization ever to race indoors on dirt in Manitoba.

In partnership with the 2009 Partsource Monster Jam Series, NLSA drivers Eric Guyot, Jeff Laurin, Bob Charney, Bob Saindon, and Roland Bernard provided over 20,000 Winnipeg motorsports fans with a preview of what they will see at Red River Coop Speedway in April of 2009. Although the racing surface was very tight, tacky, and rough, the NLSA drivers did an excellent job steering their high-powered, lightweight Lightning Sprints around the dirt oval.

The action was as hot on the concourse of the MTS Centre as it was on the race track. Thousands of fans carefully looked over a Northern Lightning Sprints display car, which was set up on riser blocks for easier viewing. Representatives from the NLSA were on hand with the display car to answer questions from interested onlookers.

With a solid rule book that ensures long-term affordability of the Lightning Sprint class and a solid team of drivers dedicated to making the sport of auto racing better, the Northern Lightning Sprint Association is sure to meet with great success in the future.

The Northern Lightning Sprint Association would like to thank everyone at Monster Jam for their assistance in making this a truly successful event.

NEW UPDATE - October 11, 2008

"After 2 years watchin , I can't stand it no more, went to grand forks and didn't like it, first time sitting in the stands, terrible experience, thinking about getting one of Darren Pallen's Lightning Sprints, they look like fun, faster than a Late Model on Winnipeg track, since don't have any sponsors it's something I could afford, I think if they officially run them and have them on the schedule I'll run one, and my crew will probably run there's to, hope it works out, if not for spares I got two brand new ASCS 360 gathering the dust in the garage, lol, looking forward to next year."

Season over after only 9 laps

Due to others lack of care and control of there race car we are probably done for the season the night started out good, the new motor was great, needed some tuning but was strong for hot laps

Started tail end of the heat and got by a couple of cars, finished 5th.

Started 14th in the feature and the car was closer, got up to 10th in 5 laps and had a caution, started 10th and was making progress on the bottom when the #1 car lost control of his car and decided not to lift and came straight down the track and took out the 21k and ourselves, end of night and probably the season.

Broken parts list: chassis, top wing and stands, front wing and stands, right front rim and tire, left side rims ,front axle, radius rods, caliper and rotor ,hood and nosepiece, crash bars, air box, injection (cracked top front stacks off), valve cover (bent valves, rockers and pushrods, as long as nothing went through the motor it should be good) right side header, torque tube (diff appears to be ok), front and rear arms, drag link and 2 shocks, that seems to be it for now, we will strip the car later in the week after I go buy a new fishing rod.

Check out the video and pics.

Anyone interested in donating a car or fistfuls of cash feel free to do so, later rich and crew

New Era Begins For Prairie Dirt

Prairie Dirt (2005) website is about to kick off it's 7th season on the internet and with it came the promise of the beginning of a new era. Webmaster and open wheel enthusiast Greg Cybulski says that the new era begins now.

"I know it's an old cliché about taking things to a new level, but for myself, it is true. I couldn't be more thrilled."

Like a wild grass fire, news of the inaugural "Prairie Dirt Classic" is spreading quickly across the Canadian prairies.

The Alberta Sprint Tour race event in the neighboring province of Saskatchewan is promising to be one of the most talked about race weekends of the summer. The first race will be held on Saturday, July 7 at Speedy Creek Raceway in Swift Current, as well the AST is also currently working with Flatlanders Speedway in Kindersley for an event slated for the Sunday of that same weekend.

Well its time to get ready for racing again, the winters seem to get shorter every year. We are well under way already. For the third year in a row we have been invited by Red River Co-op Speedway to be the featured sprint car at the WORLD OF WHEELS car show in Winnipeg, on April 30th to may 1st. We will be starting the season off with the 03 Eagle Chassis that we ran last year with the exception of the new ASCS 360 motor which has considerably more power than the one we ran last year. We have no set schedule, we will run some ASCS , NOSA, and Outlaw shows, we plan on traveling again this year and running different racetracks. As we get more info on the upcoming season and schedules become available I will update.

Thank you, Richard and Crew

Second Night

Uphill battle all night but it worked in our favor.

hot laps: sucked

time trials: sucked, motor wouldn't  run, 1 second off, qualified 28th, 2nd time trial (for a $100 you can re-qualify) waste of a GOOD $100, 2 seconds off now.

heat: motor still a bag of crap, started 8th and got up to 4th, last lap it stalled and we coasted to the infield without taking the checkered, ended up 7th,forced to run b main

B MAIN: started 8th motor still sucked but track slicked off so it was like having traction control, worked like hell and got third, a main here we come

A main : started 20th got up to 17 by lap 15, track was a one lane follow the leader race, went yellow, picked up a couple of spots by the next yellow, 10 to go, got by a couple more and finished 14th, lot of work and effort by the crew this evening, it all paid off in the end, once we figure what is wrong with the motor were going to be unstoppable.

Rich and crew, later
