LaSalle Speedway Looking Forward To DirtCar Weekly Racing Series Debut!!!

Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 4-12-04

The anticipation and excitement of the upcoming racing season at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle,IL is quite evident from promoter/track manager Kerrianne Izzo. And, the opportunity for DirtCar (dirt Late Model) racers competing at the high-banked ¼ mile speedplant to compete for a National Championship and the awards that come with it have Ms. Izzo anxiously awaiting the May 1 opening race.

LaSalle Speedway will be a part of the inaugural DirtCar Weekly Racing Series which adds an additional $4,000 to the LaSalle Speedway DirtCar point fund and also gives a LaSalle Speedway DirtCar “weekly” competitor a chance to win the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series National Championship and the $20,000 cash bonus and other awards that go with it.

“Our drivers at LaSalle Speedway are extremely excited about being a part of the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series”, stated Ms. Izzo in a telephone conversation. “This program now gives the weekly racer not only added incentives for the local program but they will be a part of a National Championship. There are other tracks across the country that have become a part of this program, not as many as we would like to see this first year of the program, but I firmly believe in the program. All of us here at LaSalle Speedway are doing are part to make the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series bigger in the years to come by talking with the promoters. The program not only helps the racers but it helps the promoters as well”.

The DirtCar Weekly Racing Series, a property of Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. based in Shelby,NC who also operate the “national” Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioning organization as well as the “regional” Northern, Southern and Western Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioning organizations, was created to allow DirtCar drivers who compete at one (local) track the opportunity to judge their skills and abilities against drivers from across the nation. A points system using a sliding scale and which gives allowances for car count, number of races and top finishes will be used to determine the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series National Champion.

The DirtCar Weekly Racing Series National Championship Point Fund will award $100,000 in total awards to the top 20 in points. National Championship points are determined based on the number of events competed in; number of wins; number of top 5 finishes; number of competitors and the starting format. An inverted start will add 5% - 10% to the scores while a straight up start will deduct 5% from the scores. To be eligible for the “local” track point fund and the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series National Championship point fund, competitors must purchase a DirtCar Weekly Racing Series membership at their “local” track. In addition to being eligible for the point funds, membership also gives drivers and pit crews several other added incentives.

Not only will the DirtCar racers at LaSalle Speedway now have an opportunity for something they’ve never had before, they also will be competing on the Goodyear Racing Eagle tires. That is something different from the racers but according to Ms. Izzo the feedback from the DirtCar racers has been more than positive.

“Our decision to go with the DirtCar Weekly Racing Series and the Goodyear program was done with the consideration of our racers. We had several discussions and meetings with the racers here at LaSalle Speedway and the response was nothing but positive. Three past track champions, Ryan Dauber, Tony Izzo Jr. and Frank Reaber and two guys who will be a threat for the championship, Tim Hamburg and Jay Fiene, can’t wait to get going. They are all excited about the Goodyear’s and this entire program. Talking with several drivers from around the country all I’ve heard is positive, positive, positive with the Goodyears”.

According the Ms. Izzo, the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire X-300 and the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire X-400 will be the mandated tires for use in DirtCar competition in 2004 at LaSalle Speedway. The Goodyear Eagle Racing Tires may be purchased through R-A Benson at 309-343-6464, by phoning 815-223-6939 Tuesday and Thursday only or at the track on race day.

And having “my”, as Ms. Izzo likes to refer to the racers, on the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire for the weekly LaSalle program should give them an edge when the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series rolls into LaSalle Speedway July 31.

“With my racers on the same tire when the ‘big boys’ roll in evens the playing field and should make them competitive with the national drivers”, said Ms. Izzo. “Not that my racers couldn’t compete with them before. It’s just now the playing field is leveled even more for them”.

Ms. Izzo continued, “I’m just so excited about this whole package. Added monies and incentives for the weekly program here at LaSalle Speedway, a National Championship point fund, the Goodyear Tire program…… It’s just going to be a really, really exciting year at LaSalle Speedway. Add in the fact that the Speed Channel cameras will be here at LaSalle Speedway for the July 31 Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series event, which will be the first-ever televised event in LaSalle Speedway history….. Well, it’s going to be a big year at LaSalle!”

LaSalle Speedway will hold a “test and tune” session Saturday, April 24 with the season opener set for May 1. For further information on LaSalle Speedway phone 815-223-6939 Tuesday and Thursday, 815-223-6900 race day only or visit the LaSalle Speedway web site located at www.lasallespeedway.com .

The long awaited debut of the Western Xtreme DirtCar Series can't come quickly enough for dirtcar (dirt Late Model) fans and race teams on the West Coast but that wait is about over with the inaugural event set for Saturday, March 27 at Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield,CA. Saturday's opener at Bakersfield Speedway has WXDCS director Sandy Bainton excited. "The phone has been literally ringing off the hook", stated Bainton in a Thursday phone call. "Calls from race teams, from fans, from media; it's been unreal! This opener for the Western Xtreme series should be really something. The best drivers on the west coast will be here. And, there is going to be special appearance by the world famous Budweiser Clydesdale Draft Horses. If the phone is any indication, fans better get to Bakersfield Speedway early".

A complete program of time trials, heat races, "B" Mains and dash race will precede the "CARQUEST Xtreme DirtCar Series Opener 40". Pit gates at Bakersfield Speedway will open at 2:30pm with spectator gates opening at 5:00pm. Time Trials are set to begin at 6:00pm with racing beginning at 6:30pm (all times western). "That's just some of the drivers. At our 'Preview Race' a few weeks back 32 race teams were here at Bakersfield, which Bobby Hogge IV won, and it was great race. I'm looking for the same thing Saturday. Good close, fast and competitive racing".

Bakersfield Speedway, a high-banked 1/3rd mile dirt oval, is located north of Bakersfield,CA on State Route 99 to 7th Standard Road, then 3.6 miles east, then .5 mile north on Chester Ave., then NE on Chester Ave. Extension. Bland's Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. also operates the national touring Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series, the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series, Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series and now Western Xtreme DirtCar Series regional tours as well as the Xtreme Weekly Series.

When asked if the response to the new series had been positive, Bainton replied, "Now, that we finally have ourselves as part of Xtreme DirtCars,Inc., the race teams out here are part of a national sanctioning organization. With all the benefits and promotional items available it will bring us up to what the rest of the nation has. It's great for the race teams and great for the fans as well. The Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire is a great deal for our race teams. The reports of the races back east have been awesome with the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire".

CARQUEST Xtreme DirtCar Series race teams are reminded that starting with Saturday's Bakersfield Speedway event, a Goodyear Racing Eagle MUST be used on the right rear. A grace period allowing other brands of racing tires to be used on the other three corners of the race car is in effect for the first four CARQUEST XDCS sanctioned events. Darren Miller Cops Career First Stacker2® Xtreme
DirtCar Series Victory At I-20 Speedway!!!

Bret Emrick

Columbia (Batesburg),SC 3-20-04

Darren “The Thriller” Miller of Chadwick,IL led every lap of the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned/Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series co-sanctioned “Spring Fling 50” at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg,SC Saturday pocketing the $10,000 prize for his first career Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series victory. Driving the Seubert Calf Ranches No. 32D Miller Racing Rocket Chassis/Pro Power Racing/Taurus, the 2004 LUCAS OIL “Rookie of the Year” contender beat Donnie Moran into turn one at the drop of the green flag keeping his car ahead of Moran and the rest of the field and never looked back. Moran held on for second with Jimmy Mars third, Brian Birkhofer fourth and Earl Pearson Jr. fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Don O’Neal in sixth trailed by Matt Miller, Shane Clanton, Doug Sanders and Ray Cook.

“This is a real thrill!”, stated the very happy winner. “We got the jump on Donnie at the drop of the green flag and that pretty much was the race. I knew Donnie was back there and I just had to tell myself to stay calm, hit my marks and run my line. I don’t want to say the track rubbered up but it did get somewhat black and then about the halfway mark the black started to go away and the red clay started to show again. There was no way I was giving up the bottom because I knew if I did Donnie would blow right by me. The Goodyear Eagles performed flawlessly. Man, the tires worked great. We ran the X-300 all the way through the program but did put a X-400 on the right rear for the feature. The tires never gave up and they can be used again. 50 laps didn’t hurt ‘em a bit”.

When asked how it felt to win his career first Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series victory the personable driver said, “Awesome! I mean we ran like a dog at East Bay in February. We didn’t make any of the main events down there. Then to lead all the way….I’ve never led one of these races. Lead all 50 and win. Man, it doesn’t get any better than this!”.

Moran and Miller brought the 27 car field to the green flag with Miller using the outside groove of the semi-banked 4/10ths mile speedway to pull ahead of Moran as the pair exited turn two. That basically was the race as once Miller had the point and dropped to the low groove he felt no challenges the rest of the way. Mars settled into third at the end of the first lap with Birkhofer fourth and Pearson Jr. fifth.

By lap 10 Miller had opened up a nearly 12 car advantage on Moran but that was quickly whittled down to four car lengths as Miller looked for a way to put Bill Elliott a lap down. Miller worked his way past Elliott on lap 13 and quickly opened up distance on Moran. The field continued to race hard and fast as the laps quickly clicked off. By the halfway point of the event, Miller held a six car length lead over Moran with Mars, Birkhofer and Pearson Jr. occupying third through fifth. O’neal sat sixth with M. Miller seventh, Cook eighth, Sanders ninth and Eddie Carrier Jr. tenth.

Miller saw the track clear ahead of him on lap 37 when the races first caution flew as Jack Pennington slowed to a stop in turn three and then headed pitside. Miller used the clear track to again open a healthy margin over Moran but that all changed on lap 44 when Steve Shaver and Shane Tankersley tangled exiting turn four locking their cars together momentarily until separating. Tanksersley stalled his car bringing out the caution.

The final six laps was all Miller as he quickly assumed his advantage over Moran and kept it taking the checkered flag with a five car margin of victory.

The $42,000 event attracted 51 drivers to the Wendy Hall promoted facility with Birkhofer earning the RINGERS GLOVES Time Trials Fast Qualifier award with a fast lap of 16.936 seconds. Heat race wins fell to Birkhofer, Mars, Pearson Jr., Cook, Moran and D. Miller. Sunoco Race Fuels “Official Race Fuel” Of Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series!!!

Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 3-16-04

Sunoco Race Fuels, distributed through the Bearden Oil Company, is the “Official Race Fuel” of the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series and all other Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. properties for the 2004 racing season stated Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. owner/president Doug Bland in a statement Tuesday from the sanctioning organization’s North Carolina office.

“Sunoco Race Fuels, and the series Sunoco Race Fuels distributor Bearden Oil Company, are the ‘Official Race Fuel’ and ‘Official Sunoco Race Fuel Distributor’ for the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series and the other Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. properties for the 2004 season.”, stated Bland. “Sunoco Race Fuels manufacture’s a quality product and have long been a supporter of not only the various Xtreme DirtCar sanctioning organizations but other racing organizations throughout the world. Sunoco Race Fuels is the biggest racing fuel supplier in the world. Our association with Sunoco Race Fuels is a long-standing relationship. As is our association with the Bearden Oil Company. Those associations are solid”.

Sunoco Race Fuels 2004 contingency program with the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series awards the first driver not to qualify for a feature event with a drum of Sunoco Race Fuel distributed through the Bearden Oil Company. The award is in place for all 2004 Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned events.

Bland continued in his statement, “All of us with Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. wish to thank Sunoco Race Fuels and the Bearden Oil Company for their continuing support. Sunoco Race Fuels is the ‘Official Race Fuel’ and Bearden Oil Company is the “Official Sunoco Race Fuel Distributor” for Xtreme DirtCars,Inc.”.

Moran Charges To Inaugural Southern Xtreme DirtCar
Series Victory At Carolina Speedway!!!

Bret Emrick

Gastonia,NC 3-13-03

Donnie Moran of Dresden,OH recovered from a lap 34 flat tire while leading the "City Chevrolet 50" at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia,NC Saturday and charged from the rear of the field after pitting for a fresh Goodyear Eagle to post the $5,000 win in the inaugural sanctioning event for the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series, co-sanctioned by the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series. Driving the QPI Tools Dirt Ripper No. 99 Donnie Moran Racing MasterSbilt Race Cars/SMS Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carl, "The Million Dollar Man" used the high-groove of the semi-banked 4/10ths mile speedway to charge back into the lead on lap 43.

Eighth starting Petey Ivey rode home second with seventh starting Dan Breuer third, ninth starting David Smith fourth and twelfth starting Buckshot Miles fifth. Rounding out the top ten finishers were Larry Blankenship in sixth trailed by eleventh starting David Dick in seventh, thirteeth starting Patrick Sheltra in seventh then 19th starting Phil Gann ninth and pole sitter Dennis "Rambo" Franklin tenth.

Franklin and outside pole sitter Steve Shaver brought the "City Chevrolet 50" feature field to the green flag with Franklin winning the drag race into turn one and pulled ahead of Shaver to lead lap 1. Lap 2 was completed before the yellow flag waved for a Doug Sanders spin. One more lap was recorded before the caution waved again on lap 3 for a David Dick spin. The yellow was displayed on lap 4 when Ed Gibbons and Blankenship got together with Gibbons coming to a stop.

Things settled down after the early race cautions allowing the drivers to thrill the packed crowd. Lap 16 saw Franklin in a three-wide battle for the lead with Moran and fast qualifier Shane Clanton when contact between the three sent Clanton spinning to a stop which brought out the caution flag. Once the race restarted Moran continued his high groove assault on Franklin pulling ahead on lap 22 to become the new race leader. Moran began to open up some distance on Franklin with 30 laps to go. Moran suddenly lost the handle of his race car as the right rear tire had been punctured by debris and at lap 34 Moran slowed to a stop with the right rear Goodyear Eagle X-100 flat. Moran headed pitside for new rubber and re-entered the race in fifteenth position, after receiving his courtesy pace laps.

Franklin found himself once again with the lead with Ivey now in the second spot. Franklin pulled away from Ivey on the restart but the same fate that befell Moran hit Franklin as well when Franklin's right rear Eagle started to lose air. Franklin saw Ivey get by for the lead on lap 40 and Franklin rolled to a stop with the right rear Eagle completely flat from a debris puncture.

Ivey now had the lead with only 9 laps remaining bit Moran was lined up directly behiond Ivey for the restart. Once the green flag replaced the yellow flag Moran shot for the top side of the track while Ivey raced the low groove. Moran's high groove worked as Moran shot into the lead on lap 43 and kept the lead to the finish.

The $24,000 purse event drew 22 race teams to the inaugural SXDCS sanctioned event. Shane Clanton topped the field during time trials cruising the Carolina Speedway dirt oval at 15.864 seconds. Heat race wins fell to Moran, Franklin and Shaver and the YJ STINGER EXTREME ENERGY DRINK dash fell to Franklin.

The Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series will co-sanction the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned March 20 $10,000 to win "Spring Fling 50" at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg,SC. “Sunshine State” Drivers Headed For Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series/Stacker2®
Xtreme DirtCar Series Carolina Speedway Event!!!

March 10, 2004
Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC  3-10-04

When the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series holds it’s inaugural sanctioning event, co-sanctioned with the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series, this Saturday, March 13 at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia,NC two former champions in the National Late Model Series will unload their race cars with aspirations of chasing the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series in 2004.

Johnny Collins and Patrick Sheltra, both of Jacksonville,FL, and teammates on the Sheltra & Sons Construction sponsored C.J. Rayburn Race Cars powered by Clements Racing Engines will be among the drivers who plan to compete in the $5,000 to win “City Chevrolet 50” at the semi-banked 4/10ths mile speedway. Collins, 28 years old and the 2003 National Late Model Series champion, and Sheltra, 17 years old and the 2004 National Late Model Series “Rookie of the Year” to go along with a 3rd place finish in the 2004 NLMS points chase, are both excited to take the next step up according to team spokesperson John Collins, the father of Johnny.

“We’re taking a real hard look at chasing the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series”, stated the elder Collins in a telephone interview. “We raced the ‘Winternationals’ at East Bay with Xtreme in February and enjoyed it tremendously. It was our first time there. We didn’t have the best results. I think Johnny finished top five in one those strawberry dashes. But, it was a great learning experience for the boys. Plus, we liked the fact that once the race was over you didn’t have your car ripped apart by the officials like we were used to. It’s nice being able to get your pay after the races and head home”.

When asked if the young drivers were ready for the regional battles of the SXDCS Collins related, “Most definitely. One of the reasons we’re doing this is because it’s the next logical step up the professional ladder for both Johnny and Patrick. Like I said, we were really impressed with the organization at East Bay and like the direction Xtreme is heading. It’s a good program. Earl Pearson Jr. who travels with the Stacker2® Series is a very good friend of ours. Johnny and Earl raced go karts against each other years ago and we’ve always been friends with the Pearson’s. We’ve done a lot of talking with Earl about making this step and he feels the boys are ready. So, here we go!”

The younger Collins has been racing since he was 5 years old starting off in go karts and has worked his way up the ladder. Switching from go karts to Open Wheel Modifieds at age 16, Collins continued to hone his skills driving a dirtcar (late model) and the modified the past 10 years.

Sheltra is a relative new comer to the sport starting off in Street Stocks 3 years ago. Racing primarily at Okeechobee Speedway where he won several main events, Sheltra made the move to the dirtcars (late models) just last year quickly adapting to the high-horse power machines.

“Though we didn’t fare real well at East Bay the boys did real well at Volusia the following week”, said Collins Sr. “Patrick made the show every night down there and Johnny made two feature starts. There were some really heavy hitters there so just to make the show was a victory in itself for us. I think we’re ready. Saturday will tell. We’ll be at Carolina and give it our best shot”.

Incorrect Tire Compound Released For Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series
Event At Carolina Speedway!!!

March 9, 2004
Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 3-9-04

An incorrect tire compound for the upcoming March 13 Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned/Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series co-sanctioned at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia,NC was mistakenly reported in a series March 8, 2004 press release. The correct Goodyear Eagle Tire compounds that have been mandated for the Carolina Speedway event are the Goodyear Eagle X-100 and X-300 tire compounds. The earlier release mistakenly stated the Goodyear Eagle X-200 tire compound would be one of the mandated tire compounds for the Carolina Speedway event.

Racers competing in the March 13 Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series/Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series co-sanctioned event at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia,NC and in the March 20 Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series/Southern Xtreme DirtCarSeries co-sanctioned event at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg,SC will have two choices of Goodyear Eagle racing tire compounds that can be used in competition.

For the March 13 event at Carolina Speedway the Goodyear Eagle X-100 and X-300 compound racing tire have been mandated as the only two compounds of Goodyear Eagles permitted for use in competition. For the March 20 event at I-20 Speedway the Goodyear Eagle X-300 and X-400 compound racing tire with an option of the Goodyear Eagle X-500 for the right rear only will be the compound of tires permitted.

"We told the racers we would get the word out as quickly as possible of what two compounds of Eagles would be permitted for use in Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series and Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned events or our co-sanctioned events", stated Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. Goodyear Tire Program Co-Ordinator Mike Franklin. "After discussing the choices with the Goodyear Tire engineers it was felt that the X-100 and X-300 Eagles would work for Carolina Speedway. It's a softer compound type of track. Coversely, I-20 Speedway demands a harder compound of tire. That's why we chose the X-300 and the X-400 Eagles. However, we have given the teams that will compete at I-20 Speedway the option of using the X-500 Eagle on the right rear only".

Race teams are reminded to phone Mike Franklin at the Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. office, 704 487-1169 ext. 18, to order tires and have any questions related to the Goodyear Eagle tire program answered.

The March 13 event sanctioned by the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series and co-sanctioned by the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series at David Ifft's Carolina Speedway and promoted by SXDCS director Mike Gault and Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. owner/president Doug Bland features a $5,000 first place prize to the winner of the "City Chevrolet 50". A total purse in excess of $25,000 awaits the teams at the semi-banked 4/10ths mile speedway.

A complete program of time trials, offering a $500 bonus from Treadwell's Racing Stuff to the fastest qualifier, heat races, "B" Mains and the YJ STINGER EXTREME ENERGY DRINK dash will precede the SXDCS/Stacker2® XDCS sanctioned "City Chevrolet 50". "We did the 'Paydirt 24" promotion during the 'Winternationals' at East Bay and everyone got real excited", said co-promoter Mike Gault. "The promotion was super successful at East Bay. It's a great way for the fans to get even more involved with the racing program". We know we have an event that fans will want to attend. Having the 'Paydirt 24' promotion makes it even more exciting".

Gault added, "We decided to do the promotion at Carolina Speedway because David Ifft and his family have such a great facility. There's lots of three-wide racing and some of the best racing fans around. And we wanted to get a race in before the I-20 Speedway event to give our Southern Series drivers the opportunity to earn some points".

The excitement level for the Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series is building according to Gault. "We're real excited about this new series. Doug and the others have done a great job putting together a major dirt track program that will reach fans all over the country. And, this series is specifically for the fans in the Southeast".

Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series Amends And Clarify's Goodyear Tire Usage!!!

March 5, 2004
Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 3-5-04

After several meetings and teleconferences between officials of the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and series drivers agreement was reached Thursday (3-4-04) to amend the rules concerning the mandated Goodyear Eagles required in all Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series and Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned events. And, clarifications of what race teams may do to the Goodyear Eagles was also agreed upon.

Effective immediately only two (2) compounds of the Goodyear Eagle X-100, X-200, X-300 and X-400 racing tire will be permitted for use in competition at all Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series and Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned events. Race teams will be notified no later than one week prior to a scheduled sanctioned event of what two (2) compounds of Goodyear Eagle racing tires will be permitted for competition at that particular racing facility.

Clarification of what "buffing" can be done to the Goodyear Eagle racing tire was also agreed upon. And, series officials, series drivers and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company officials also clarified and agreed to a "No Tolerance" rule concerning any "softening or chemical treatments" of the Goodyear Eagle.

"The decision we made concerning the two compound rule we feel levels the playing field even more.", said Xtreme DirtCars,Inc, owner/president Doug Bland. "This decision gives the local driver that much better chance of competing with the national or regional drivers. It will cut down the raceteams expense of purchasing tires. And, the local drivers will be on the exact same tire as everyone else that is in competition that night. We want to give the local drivers the opportunity to compete in our events. Now with only two compounds they can. Easily. Plus, they'll get the exposure of our series sponsors and the television package. But, the big thing is the cost advantage for them."

Bland also said the series drivers had a huge say in this decision. "We had teleconferences with the top 20 in points and five other selected drivers plus the folks from Goodyear were part of it too. What can you say about the drivers? As a group they all said this was the best way to go. They want the local drivers to be a part of what we have. As a matter of fact the drivers were the ones who brought up the two compounds idea. They as a group were the catalyst for this change."

When asked how the reaction from The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was to the drivers proposal, Bland said, "They were behind it 100%. Justin Fantozzi, the Sales and Marketing Manager-dirt late model, said 'We are solidly behind it'. This decision was not a one-man decision. It was a collective decision and everyone is on the same page. I'm sure this will make the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series and the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series competition that much stronger. Anyone that was at East Bay saw the tight, exciting competition the Goodyear Eagles provided."

The two compound rule will be in place for the upcoming March 20 co-sanctioned Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series and Southern Xtreme DirtCar Series $10,000 to win event at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg,SC. Mike Franklin, the Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. Goodyear Tire Program Co-Ordinator, related that the announcement of what two compounds of Goodyear Eagles that will be permitted for the I-20 Speedway date the middle of next week.

"We will make that announcement after talking with the Goodyear engineers.", said Franklin. "The choices of the compounds will be consistent with the surface of a particular race track. Goodyear knows their stuff so the race teams shouldn't have any concerns. After East Bay the Goodyear engineers and staff went back to work to make the Eagles even better. I'm positive the two compound rule is the best way to go. It will really help out the local driver and evens out the playing field even more."

Race teams are reminded that for all Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series national sanctioned events and all regional series sanctioned events that tire orders must be made through Franklin. Franklin can be reached at the Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. office number, 704-487-1169.

The "buffing" issue of the Goodyear Eagles was also discussed during the teleconferences with the consensus agreeing that only certain means of "buffing" the tread surface of the tire will be allowed. Race teams may "buff" their Goodyear Eagle tread surface with any grinding wheel but using "wire wheel" grinders is illegal. Team may not "buff" the tread surface of the Goodyear Eagle in any way that "opens up" (sipes) the tread block in the tread surface pattern.

"We are allowing teams to 'buff' their Goodyear Eagles but they can't 'open up' the tread block in any way. That's why 'wire wheel' grinder is prohibited to 'buff" the tire. ", said Xtreme DirtCars,Inc. Director of Competion Rick Day. "The series officials and Goodyear staff will be checking tires at all events. If a tire is found to have been buffed illegally the tire or tires will be conficasted."

Another item discussed and agreed upon by the teleconference group concerned "softening and/or chemical treatments" to the Goodyear Eagles.

"We have instituted a 'No Tolerance" rule concerning the 'softening and/or chemical treatments' to the tires.", said Day. "The Goodyear staff will be at our events and they have several fool-proof methods of checking for any softening agents or any chemical treatments that have been done to a tire. Any team found to be using any softening agent and/or chemical treatment risks losing their tires and/or disqualification. From the time a race team enters the pit area to the end of competition any team found using a softening agent and/or chemical treatment to their tires will lose those tires. If we find an altered tire after the feature event that driver loses the tires and is disqualified. The 'No Tolerance" rule will be strictly enforced. Again, like Doug said with the other decisions this was a group decision."

"It's taken us awhile to put the Northern Xtreme DirtCar Series schedule together", stated Bland. "But, we are happy with it and though we do still have some open dates we are working on filling we couldn't wait any longer to release the schedule. Some of the events will be co-sanctioned shows with the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series. That will give the fans the opportunity to see the best of the Stacker2 series and the Northern series at one venue. All in all we are pleased with the schedule. It give's drivers who feel more comfortable running a regional series rather the national tour a chance to do some traveling and compete against the top local drivers. But, they will still have that chance to compete against the national drivers with the co-sanctioned shows on the schedule".

2004 Schedule For Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series Released!!!

February 18, 2004
Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 2-18-04

The long awaited 2004 schedule for the Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series has been released by series owner/president Doug Bland. The 2004 schedule shows 34 confirmed dates to be contested at 28 different race tracks in a 16 state area with 9 dates yet to be confirmed. Over $400,000 in first place money alone will be up for grabs from the nearly $1,700,000 in feature purses. Those totals could swell to over $500,000 in first place money and over $2,000,000 in feature purses once the open dates are filled. Throw in a $345,000 point fund, several thousand more dollars in "Winners Circle" money and sponsor contingencies for the 2004 season and total monies and prizes available could easily top the $2,500,000 mark.

"I think the schedule is very strong and will get stronger as we fill in the open dates", stated Bland. "It should be a very exciting season as we will compete at some of the very best facilities in the country. And, we will make seven first time visits in 2004 which really has me excited. If the recent racing at East Bay Raceway Park was any indication of what the season has in store, I can't wait. It will be a long season for the teams but the rewards they have at the end of the season will definitely make it worth it."

Bland also stated, "The response from the fans at East Bay about the racing and the marketing concepts we presented with Stacker2, Goodyear, Gemini Auto Care Centers and Lucas Oil was all positive. Those things will continue and it's all for the fans. This schedule we have should be exciting for them. And, for the news fans that have never seen us before."

The chase for the 2004 Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series "YJ STINGER CUP" Championship began Feb. 3 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa,FL.
