History Making “Homecoming” Event Brings
Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series To LaSalle Speedway!!!

Bret Emrick

Shelby,NC 4-28-04

The long and storied history of LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle,IL will add another chapter Saturday, May 8 when the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series rolls into the high-banked ¼ mile clay oval for the running of the $10,000 to win “YJ Stinger Illini Challenge 50”. Not only will the side by side, high horsepower excitement play out on the speedway but fans will be in a for special treat with several promotional items planned leading up to and the day of the $42,000 purse event.

For the first time ever in LaSalle Speedway history the cameras of the Speed Channel will capture all the action of the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series event with the broadcast to air Saturday, May 29 at 3:00pm EDT. And, a strong promotional effort will find the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series “simulator” DirtCar making several stops at various locations in the LaSalle area throughout the week with free samples of Stacker2® and YJ Stinger Extreme Drinks available. Plus, one lucky fan in attendance at the “YJ Stinger Illini Challenge 50” will walk away $1,000 richer by participating in the Stacker2® “Paydirt 24” promotion.

Excitement is the best word to describe the “homecoming” for Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series owner/president Doug Bland to his “home” area. “I grew up in LaSalle County and LaSalle Speedway is my home track. I’m just so pumped up to be able to bring our series to LaSalle Speedway. I’m leasing LaSalle Speedway for this event and it’s been a joy to work with Kerrianne Izzo on this promotion. It’s a perfect fit for both parties. LaSalle Speedway is part of our Weekly DirtCar Series which mandates the Goodyear Racing Eagle as the only tire for competition. It’s the same thing with the national Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series. This gives the LaSalle Speedway racers an even playing field to compete with the national touring race teams. The mandated Goodyear Racing Eagles for the event will be the Goodyear Racing Eagle X-300 and Goodyear Racing Eagle X-400. That’s the same tire the LaSalle Speedway DirtCar drivers compete with on a weekly basis”.

Bland also added, “This is a chance to bring a very exciting professional racing organization into LaSalle Speedway and give the fans in my home area something more than just the racing on the speedway. With the Speed Channelcameras there the fans will be a part of LaSalle Speedway history. It will be the first time ever for a national television broadcast of an event at LaSalle Speedway. All the promotions we have planned for the fans throughout the week in the LaSalle area and then with the ‘Paydirt 24’ contest the night of the race, it’s going to be something the fans at LaSalle Speedway have never had before”.

Ms. Izzo is also pleased to have this history making event as well. “It’s sort of been rush-rush to put this whole thing together but I’m just so pleased and excited that Doug is going to do this event for LaSalle Speedway and the fans. Our staff will work hand in hand with the Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series to present the best racing event we can. And, this coming Saturday, May 1, we will still present the ‘Jeff’s EngineMaster Spring Shoot-Out 40’ paying $4,000 to win. That race will be held as scheduled”.

And, as an added bonus for the “YJ Stinger Illlini Challenge 50” any fan presenting their adult general admission ticket stub from this Saturday's “Jeff's EngineMaster Spring Shoot-Out 40” at the May 8 Stacker2 Xtreme DirtCar Series event will receive a $5.00 discount off adult general admission.

Corporate hospitality packages for the Saturday, May 8 “YJ Stinger Illini Challenge 50” are available. Businessess or individuals interested should phone Doug Bland at (386) 453-6874.

Bland is also offering discounted advanced adult general admission tickets for the LaSalle Speedway event. Advanced adult general admission tickets, available through 5:00pm EDT Friday, May 7, are priced at $20.00 and can be ordered by phoning (417) 768-1149. Adult general admission tickets at the gate are priced at $25.00. Tickets for children 12 years of age and and under at the gate only are $5.00 and pit admission is $35.00.

Pit gates for the LaSalle Speedway event will open at 3:00pm with spectator gates opening at 5:00pm, warm-ups at 6:00pm, time trials at 6:30pm and racing at 7:30pm. All times listed are Central Daylight Time. The LaSalle Speedway Street Stock and Sportsman divisions will also be on the racing card with added purse money for those divisions posted by Bland.

LaSalle Speedway is located south of Interstate 80 on Interstate 39 to exit 57, then 1.5 miles east on U.S. Route 6. Moran Notches Second ’04 Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar
Series Victory At New 311 Speedway!!!

Bret Emrick

Greensboro (Madison),NC 4-17-04

Donnie Moran of Dresden,OH notched his second Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series sanctioned main event victory of the 2004 season Saturday night at New 311 Speedway located near Madison,NC. Starting third, the driver of the QPI Tools Dirt Ripper/Eddie’s Sunoco No. 99 Donnie Moran Racing MasterSbilt Chassis/SMS Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo grabbed second from Brian Birkhofer on lap 3. Moran then worked early race leader Matt Miller for the next three circuits until powering underneath of Miller for the lead exiting turn two while working lap 6. Once in front Moran opened a huge lead on the field feeling no pressure the rest of the way pocketing the $10,000 to win “Tar Heel State 50”. Brian Birkhofer rode home second nearly two seconds behind Moran with Jimmy Mars third, 9th starting Ray Cook fourth and Darren Miller fifth. Completing the top ten were Matt Miller in sixth followed by Billy Drake, 25th starting Don O’Neal, Steve Shaver and Jeep Van Wormer.

“Everything worked out great!”, stated the happy winner. “The MasterSbilt Race Car, the SMS Racing Engine, the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tires, the crew…… What more can I say. Everything could go about as good as you could want. Once we got the lead it was just run your line, work the traffic and basically stay out of trouble. The car would go wherever I needed it. Low, middle, high. It didn’t matter. Nothing is ever perfect but it was real close tonight.”

Birkhofer and Miller brought the 27 car starting field to the green flag with the front row pair racing side by side on the opening lap until Miller got the edge over Birkhofer exiting turn four. Moran was third with Mars fourth and Shaver fifth at the end of the first lap. But, before lap 2 could be completed the first of 6 caution flags flew when Earl Pearson Jr. and other cars tangled in turn one. Pearson Jr. suffered extensive damage to his car, enough to force him from the race. Pearson Jr. opened the night by setting a new track record during RINGERS GLOVES time trials but it was straight downhill from that point. Leading 9 and ¾ laps of the first heat race, Pearson Jr. blew his engine limping home second. Forced to his back-up car for the main event, Pearson Jr. then made it 1 and ¼ laps before getting involved in the accident.

Moran continued his torrid pace once the race resumed opening up a nearly full straightaway length lead on the field by lap 10. Just as Moran encountered lapped traffic the yellow waved again for debris on the race track. On the restart, a multi-car tangle in turn two quickly brought the yellow flag right back out.

Once the green flag replaced the yellow flag Moran immediately pulled away from Birkhofer, M. Miller and Mars while Shaver had his hands full with Billy Hicks in a battle for fifth. By lap 20, Moran started to put the slower cars a lap down and two laps later saw himself in heavy lapped traffic which allowed Birkhofer to close to within five car lengths of Moran. The leader would see the track clear ahead of him when the caution waved once more when Larry Blankenship spun in turn four.

Moran just like the earlier restarts easily pulled away from his challenger’s but the caution would come right back out when Shaver got sideways between turns one and two collecting Hicks. The contact straightened Shaver’s car but Hicks suffered damage as did a few other competitors who tried to avoid the contact between Shaver and Hicks.

With the race back underway Moran was just too much for the rest of the field. By lap 30 Moran had lapped several cars and opened his advantage back to nearly four seconds over Birkhofer. M. Miller now had his hands full with Mars losing the third spot to Mars on lap 33. The races final caution at lap 44 for the slowing car of Dennis Franklin bunched the field back up for the remaining six laps. And, as before Moran was in a class of his own easily pulling away for the victory.

The $42,000 event attracted 42 drivers to the high-banked ½ mile speedway with Pearson Jr. establishing a new track record during RINGERS GLOVES Time Trials with his fast lap of 16.732 seconds. Grabbing heat race wins were Mars, Moran, M. Miller and Birkhofer. The “B” Main events fell to Gary Mabe and David Dick and the YJ STINGER EXTREME ENERGY DRINK Dash fell to Birkhofer.

The racing action from New 311 Speedway was captured by the cameras of Speed Channel and will be broadcast, Saturday, April 24 at 3:00pm EDT. The Stacker2® Xtreme DirtCar Series will next compete at the Auto Tire & Parts Race Park in Benton,MO with a 50 lap - $10,000 to win event scheduled for Friday, April 30.
