CAMARGO, IL. (7-26-11)By Brian Liskai – The All Star Circuit
of Champions have added a new track to the eight race Thunder Through the
Plains extravaganza. AMSOIL Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin will host the
traveling 410 sprint car series on Tuesday, Aug. 16 for a $5,000-to-win
event.
This is the first time the All Stars have visited the track. The AMSOIL
Speedway race is part of the All Stars' traditional "Thunder Through the
Plains" which has taken on a new twist this year. The All Stars have created
separate regions with separate point funds for 2011. The Thunder Through the
Plains comprises the Western Region with points awarded during each of the
eight events. The overall champion will earn $10,000!
It all kicks off Thursday, July 28 at Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg,
MB, Canada (rain date of July 29. Following are the dates of the "Thunder
Through the Plains:"
July 28 – Red River Co-Op Speedway, Winnipeg, MB - $5,000 (rain date of July
29)
July 31 – Husets Speedway, Brandon, S.D. - $5,000

Aug. 16 – AMSOIL Speedway, Superior, W.I., $5,000
Aug. 17 – Red RiverValleySpeedway, Fargo, N.D., $12,000
You can bet two-time and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer – who has
caught fire lately, winning a pair of World of Outlaw events – will be
gunning for all the cash. However, he trails three-time All Star champion
Dale Blaney in the $20,000-to-win Ohio Region and National point standings.
Also look for 2010 Knoxville Nationals Rookie of the Year David Gravel to
continue to apply pressure to both Shaffer and Blaney as he sits third in
both the Ohio Region and National point standings. Also, expect to see 2010
All Star Rookie of the Year Cap Henry, two-time All Star Champion Greg
Wilson, Tony Stewart Racing’s Jessica Zemken and more.
With so much money on the line, fans could also see current Knoxville point
leader and former World of Outlaw champion Danny Lasoski along with former
Knoxville and Huset’s champion TMac Terry McCarl follow the All Stars along
with 2011 Kings Royal winner Tyler Walker and a host of other national and
regional stars.

Smith's experience in traffic pays off for Mohawk All Star win
AKWESASNE, N.Y. (7-7-11) By Brian Liskai– Experienced racers
will often tell you they would rather be running second in traffic and make
a move late to win. That’s exactly what Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Stevie
Smith relied on Thursday to take the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of
Champion Sprint Car win at Mohawk International Raceway.
“When we were leading the race I was trying not to get tore up or crash and
then those guys are all racing hard and they made a move. So when I went
back I was doing the same thing. This is a very important win for us. Tommy
Carl and these guys have been working very hard and I have to thank them for
sticking it out. I think we have things turned around,” said Smith beside
his Zemco Speed Equipment/Zemco Headers backed #1.
Smith took the early lead, lost it to David Gravel in lapped traffic, then
used lapped traffic to regain the top spot with just six laps to go and went
on to score his 14th career All Star victory.
Two-time and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer would battle both Smith
and Gravel hard throughout the 30-lap affair, and would come home in second.
“The top was good and so many of the lapped cars were running up there.
That’s just the way it goes…the bottom was hard to pass on. It’s been a
tough week, but Brian (Kemenah, crew chief) and James and my owners Janet
(Holbrook) and Aaron (Call) didn’t give up. The J&J chassis and VRP Shocks
worked well tonight,” said Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines/Kistler Racing
Products backed #83.
Gravel would finish third. In the past four All Star events he has a pair of
runner-up finishes and a pair of third place performances.
“Stevie was leading and he made a mistake first so I got around him. Then I
made a mistake in lapped traffic and he got around me,” said Gravel beside
his JRC Transportation/P&M Transportation backed #89G. “We’ve had a very
good week and hopefully this will give us the momentum we need going into
some huge shows.”
Smith would take the lead when the green flew and set a blistering pace,
encountering lapped traffic by the fourth lap. Gravel would stay right on
his rear bumper and by lap 11 the lead pair were side-by-side down the back
stretch. Smith would get hung up by a lapped car on lap 12, and Gravel
pounced, rocketing around on the high side of turns one and two to take the
top spot, bringing Shaffer into second.
As the lapped ticked off, Gravel and Shaffer were not locked in a tremendous
battle for the lead. The two would bang wheels on lap 18 in turn one,
causing Shaffer to to off the outside of the track. But, “The Steel City
Outlaw” would gather it back up and give chase, running Gravel back down as
they exited turn four.
Meanwhile, Smith methodically worked his way through the traffic and had
caught the lead pair with six laps remaining. He first disposed of Shaffer
and then used the lapped traffic to his advantage, trapping Gravel on the
bottom in turns one and two and retaking the lead.
Smith when then set sail as Gravel and Shaffer continued their battle for
second. With five laps remaining Shaffer was able to muscle his way around
Gravel in traffic, but ran out of time to catch Smith.
Lance Dewease would finish fourth, another top five run for the
Fayetteville, Pennsylvania driver for the week to maintain his All Stars’
Easter Region points lead. Owasso, Oklahoma native Daryn Pittman, who won
his fourth and fifth career All Star features earlier in the week, would
round out the top five as he vaulted from fifth to second in the
$20,000-to-win Eastern Region point standings.

Pittman claims second straight All Star win in Canada
QUEBEC, Canada – (7-5-11) By Brian Liskai “Merci beaucoup.”
Owasso, Oklahoma’s Daryn Pittman will certainly learn those words after
scoring his second consecutive O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of
Champions Sprint Car win in Quebec, Canada Tuesday at Autodrome Drummond
Speedway.
“I’m just loving Canada right now. We haven’t been running that great. About
four races ago we ran second to finish up PA speedweek two nights and in a
row and came up here and won two. It’s just been a great team effort…gotta
thank Shawn and Glen-O for working their butts off. They just keep giving me
very good race cars so I can just go out there and do my job. Thanks to Mike
Heffner my owner and Jimmy and Rhino and the rest of the team that weren’t
able to make the trip up north,” said Pittman beside his Lelands.com backed
machine.
Pittman would dominate the 30-lap feature, leading from start to finish. He
and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer would lead the field to the
green with Pittman getting the advantage over Shaffer, current All Star
Eastern Region point leader Lance Dewease, David Gravel, Dale Blaney and
Stevie Smith. Shaffer, Dewease and Gravel would battle hard throughout the
first half of the race for second as Pittman was on cruise control. Dewease
would steal the runner-up spot on lap 10 with Gravel getting around Shaffer
for third on lap 14.
Dewease and Gravel would race side-by-side over the next11 laps before
Gravel would move into second on lap 27. The car on the move was Stevie
Smith, who would take fourth away from Shaffer on lap 27 and would move
around Dewease for third on lap 28. Meanwhile, with laps ticking off, Gravel
was closing on Pittman, but simply ran out of time. At the finish it was
Pittman, Gravel, Smith, Dewease and Shaffer rounding out the top five.
For Gravel, it was another top three – in fact the 2010 Ohio Sprint
Speedweek champion has a second, third and Tuesday’s second place run to his
credit for the last three All Star events.
“I was just riding around in the beginning and then got a little more
aggressive about half-way through the race. We had a really good car…we just
needed about five more laps,” said Gravel beside his P&M Transportation, IGA
Hometown Wheels, My Basement Doctor backed #89G.

Pittman takes Canada All Star win
QUEBEC, Canada (7-4-11) By Brian Liskai – Daryn Pittman took
advantage of a late race restart after race-long leader Fred Rahmer crashed,
to sneak past Dale Blaney and win his fourth career O'Reilly Auto Parts All
Star Circuit of Champions event Monday at Autodrome Granby.
With six laps to go Rahmer was attempting to lap Daniel Lampron when they
touched and that sent Rahmer flipping into the turn one wall. That handed
the lead to the series’ national and Ohio region point leader Dale Blaney.
On the restart Blaney would slip up slightly in turn three and Pittman was
there to pounce.
“When you’re sitting in second you have nothing else to lose. At the
beginning of the race my car was so bad I thought ‘wow I’m going to be lucky
to salvage a top five out of this. But it just kept getting better and
better as the race went on and we kind of closed back up on Dale…you know if
I was running third I probably wouldn’t have ever tried that. But, when
you’re sitting second with two to go and the top looked awful good down
there…I didn’t have a clue if it would stick or not. I thought ‘what the
hell, if I lose two spots what’s the difference between second and
fifth…it’s all the same so we just go for the win,” said Pittman beside his
Lelands.com, Pasquariello’s, Rider Racing Engines backed #27.
“We aren’t out of this points deal yet…wins are what we needed. It was a
great team effort. Shawn’s been working his butt off and I have my old crew
chief that I’ve worked with for seven years in Australia here tonight…it’s
great to get back to victory lane with him on our side,” added Pittman, who
sits in the All Star’s Eastern Region points battle behind Lance Dewease,
Blaney and Tim Shaffer.
The night got off to an ominous start as Jack Sodeman Jr. flipped violently
in Kistler Engines qualifying. Sodeman was taken to the local hospital.
After two heat races, the dash was cancelled due to curfew limitations and
the feature event was pushed out.
Rahmer would jump out to a commanding lead with Blaney in tow. Rahmer would
pull away on the fast race track as Blaney had his hands full with Pittman,
David Gravel and Tim Shaffer. Disaster struck for Rahmer on lap 24 when he
made contact with Lampron entering turn one, sending Rahmer crashing hard
into the wall. Rahmer, who ironically crashed while leading at Autodrome
last year, was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
On the restart Blaney held the lead with Pittman looking for an opportunity
to pass. Pittman would sling around Blaney entering turn three and take the
lead. Pittman, who won an All Star event earlier this year, would lead the
rest of the way. Blaney would gain valuable points in the hunt for the
$20,000 All Stars Eastern Region point’s championship with his second place
run. Gravel, Shaffer and Eastern Region points’ leader Dewease would round
out the top five.

Ocala, FL (2-4-11) By Brian Liskai– New year same
results...Tim Shaffer picked up where he left off in 2010 – winning an
O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car feature.
Shaffer, who was the hottest 410 sprint car driver in the nation last year,
opened the 28th Annual All Star Winter Nationals at Ocala Speedway Friday
night, with his sixth straight All Star feature win. Shaffer, who has won
the last two All Star championships, has now won 11 of the last 13 series’

Stewart Racing's Donny Schatz. Schatz qualified next to last and turned a
blistering 13.039 on his second lap to take the Kistler Engines Fast
Qualifier Award. He then PA Posse member Aaron Ott major fits in the dash
race for starting positions. But Schatz's night would end early with a
spectacular front stretch flip in the feature as he became entangled in some
lapped traffic. After racing ended Tony Stewart was spotted assessing the
damage to Schatz's machine in the pit area, as the team attempted to
regroup.
Shaffer may not have set the fastest qualifying time, but in the dash for
starting positions he rose to the top and remained there to nab the pole
position for the feature.
Traffic is always a problem in the tight and odd shaped confines of Ocala
Speedway, but between cautions that gave Shaffer clear track ahead, and his
own skill at dealing with slower machines, he managed to avoid obstacles and
maintain his lead. Early chasers like Ott and Schatz slipped back and were
replaced by Daryn Pittman and Tyler Walker late in the race, but Shaffer
held on to claim victory in the 25 lap event.
Shaffer drove the Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports, Kistler Racing
Products, Kistler Racing Engines backed #83 to the victory over Pennsylvania
Posse members Daryn Pittman, Tyler Walker and Aaron Ott and three-time All
Star champion Dale Blaney.
The win gives Shaffer, “The Steel City Outlaw,” the lead in the new All Star
point system for the Eastern Region. In 2011, the All Stars will have an
Eastern Region which includes the Winternationals and races in Central
Pennsylvania, New York, Canada and other events in the east.
